A student shares their internship experience at the Office of WI Assembly Democratic Leader Rep Neubauer.

I had the opportunity to intern with Assembly Democratic Leader Representative Neubauer. Much of the work that I did was in preparation for the next legislative session. I conducted policy research on the current laws in Wisconsin surrounding certain topics and researched ways these could potentially be changed. In this process, I looked at what types of laws Minnesota and Michigan had to see what Wisconsin Democrats could potentially model off of when looking to pass similar legislation. Another big project that I did was the bill tracker which tracked over 1400 bills that Rep. Neubauer was co-sponsored on. This included inserting hyperlinks and updating the status of the bill. I also was tasked with opening and reading through constituent mail. This was a very valuable experience as I was able to see a wide range of people’s concerns. One of the last big things that I was tasked with was researching voter organization’s stances on certain issues. Through these experiences, I was able to gain valuable insight into how the legislative process works. It was a great experience to get to zoom into how policy is passed.
